  • I really wish we had some “diversity” in the group because I would really like to have a discussion about race relations in the U.S. and all of the baggage that we all bring to that one. Not that we can’t pretend to represent the views of non-whites in a discussion, but like the great philosopher Ray Charles said, “aint nothing like the real thing, baby”.

Thanks to everyone for talking a whole bunch last night. I was a bit wary of awkward silences before we started.

  • THOMAS KUHN! THAT’S his name!”paradigm shifts”. very cool constructive duality.

  • Yeah. . . awkward silences are scary — but we haven’t had those in a while. *L*

It would be interesting to have some conversations on race, in which people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences can share. . .

  • Bethany, thanks for the name! Pat you did a great job.

  • Hey team,

Sorry, but I will not be there tomorrow. I’m taking my dad to the Rays game for his father’s day gift because he leaves for the summer this weekend and this is the only time our schedules coincided.

In terms of the topic for tomorrow night I had one major question. If the newspaper model is dead and bloggers and instant news is the current and future reality, where exactly do we think these new media get their information? Do blogs support research staff and investigators? Do instant news places have foreign bureaus? Do any of the new media conduct interviews with due dilligence? I think that there will be a news blowback when the last newspaper goes under and these insta-news sources suddenly have no news to report on.
